Gender Inequality

The article explains how toys are separated by gender for kids to purchase. With this separation, is causes a riff in the child's choice to select which toys to play with. The woman in the article describes how the store she went to did not have signs up displaying which toys are where. This article connects with what we spoke about in class because of the inequality that is displayed with life. In the workplace, woman are looked down upon because males are traditionally meant to be the dominant species in society. Women are not supposed to get paid as much, or hold high priority positions in companies. Inequality in the workplace is the most common form of inequality but it is not the only. When it comes to children, they are very easily persuaded which makes the toy subject and the openness very important for them. They are the future and they must understand that we may all look different and are different sexes but we are all able to coexist and deserve to  be equal in all senses of the term.

San Jose’s Gordon Gets Three-Game Ban for Anti-Gay Slur

http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2013/04/16/sports/soccer/16reuters-soccer-mls-gordon.html?ref=discrimination&_r=0

This article from the New York Times describes a soccer player from San Jose who was caught on camera saying a homophobic slur to another soccer player during a match. This is not the first time this has happened. Multiple times throughout history, sports have been plagued with the insults and looking down upon other human beings being homosexual. As a result, the player has been suspended and instructed to attend mandatory sensitivity training. This has been the consequence in many sports. I feel that this is not even close to what the outcome should be when an offense like this happens. The sports world still has yet to have an "out" player and to still stand strong and tall in the sports world. Society claims to be okay with everything but no one has stepped forward and with the more homophobic slurs that are used; the worse chance someone has to step forward and come out. When will society learn that it is not wrong to be gay? When will society learn that it should be accepted and that it does not change the person they are? This is only one "accident" in soccer but this has happened in baseball, basketball, football, and various other sports. The world of sports is in dyer need of a gay superstar so that the sports world can open their mind and eyes to the changing times.
